How many loops do you cast on for a king-size afghan and how much yarn do you need?

i am a beginner and i jus use the standard stitch nothing fancy...i dont even know what size needle i have...but i do know it is much bigger then the ones used for baby blankets..thanks for any help

The size of the needle may be on the end of it. For a beginner it might be best to do something smaller. Can you read instructions? That is usually hard for beginners. Do you have a pattern of any kind for beginners?Get a tape measure and figure out how long and how wide that you want it to be. Then cast on until you have enough to match one of the measurements. (The long side) Then start your stitches. When you are as wide at the end as you want it to be, it will be finished. If I can help more e-mail me. I have patterns.
